The most important expression of Sciacca craftsmanship is its pottery in majolica.
It’s known that in 1282 its kilns produced glazed manufactured articles, the potteries found in most of the XIV and XVIII buildings of the noblemen in Gela and Agrigento were made by some masters from Sciacca. After this date the production stops and thanks to the birth of a school of art, in the forties, the activity begins again. Sciacca potters are very important in our nation for their artistic production. The traditional potteries of Sciacca are very appreciated by tourists. Another important activity is fishing. Sciacca has 500 fishing boats bringing five thousand tons of Mediterranean fish. It is then processed in the fishing and preservative industries and exported all over the world. Oil and wine production is one more characteristics of Sciacca.
